THE HANSEN STORY

It all started with a vision. John Robert was an intelligent man, who worked as an electrician in Sioux City, Iowa and studied growth in areas all over the nation. He saw more potential in the small valley of Orem, Utah than anywhere else. So he moved his family and opened up Roberts Electric in 1950 on the corner of State and Center street, surrounded by fields.

In 1954 John brother Dave and their cousin Don Hansen joined the business and business was booming. Sadly just 5 years later in 1959 the steel strike which lasted over a year took its toll on many businesses in the community and Roberts electric went out of business.

Don Hansen was unswayed by the difficult times and knew that things would get better. He also saw a need for a top-tier service oriented lighting company. So he borrowed some money and opened up Hansen wholesale electric. And again business started to grow.

A company on the move. By 1966 Don needed even more help so he hired his Nephew Jeff Roberts who is still with Hansen Lighting today. As the business continued to grow they soon found they simply needed more space. So they moved from their small store to a 22,500 sq ft building at 934 N State Street where they proudly displayed 2,000 lights.

A family member takes over. As time went on Jeff Robert eventually took over ownership of Hansen Lighting. With years of lighting experience and a true passion for being on the cutting edge of technology and style, Jeff offered the people something no one else could match. Even today when the most difficult questions come up he is the go to source.

New Partners & Familiar Values. In 2004, Jason Petersen joined the Hansen Lighting partnership. Bringing nearly a decade of computer programming and process design experience, Jason helped turn Hansen Lighting into a company driven by process and systems. The following year, Jared Christensen (a licensed professional engineer) joined the team. Moving the store to a new location at 922 N 1430 W in Orem allowing for more growth yet again. Finally, in 2008 Marshall McKinnon joined Hansen Lighting and moved the company into a more aggressive selling model. Over the following two years, Hansen Lighting would grow to become the #1 lighting provider for new construction.

The Hansen Vision enters a new world. The combination of new technology, development of improving processes more aggressive sales while never letting go of the real core values that set Hansen Lighting apart all those years ago continues to make Hansen Lighting the one to go to with anything lighting. Hansen lighting still continues to offer new products to take advantage of even more growth opportunities.
